    The EBF gene family in haematopoiesis, the haematopoietic niche and bone formation

    Haematopoiesis is the process by which mature blood cells are generated. This process is dependent on the interaction of haematopoietic cells with their microenvironment. In comparison to the haematopoietic cells, very little is known about the supporting – or niche cells and the communication between these cell types.

    We discovered that members of a family of transcription factors, EBF (early B cell factor), play important roles in cells that support haematopoiesis and that are important in bone formation and remodelling.
    We want to closer characterise the role of individual members of this protein family in the haematopoietic microenvironment as well as in haematopoiesis and bone formation. In parallel, we are using these transcription factors as starting points to find out more about genes involved in these processes.
